Under Construction
As you can see, we’re undergoing a bit of a facelift here. Sorry for any inconvenience, and hopefully we’ll be pretty again real soon. My server was hacked and there was all kinds of badness going on behind the scenes. That’s all been fixed now, so we’re safe, if not yet beautiful. Thanks for visiting, and hope to see you again soon. Share … Read entire article »
No Birds Yet
Continuing to make only what I darn well please in 2012, I am working on a landscape from a photo I took on our hike up Camelback Mountain in Scottsdale, Arizona around Christmas. So there. [Acrylic and conte on paper, 22 x 30"] Share … Read entire article »

Another Mourning Dove
I started a second drawing/watercolor from my mourning dove photos today. I think I started getting too fussy with this one, and I’m hoping to be brave enough to experiment with these a little. I want to explore everything from keeping them very bare and simple to doing lots of layering and tiny details. Share … Read entire article »

Mourning Dove
While I was in Arizona at Christmastime, I found a couple of dead mourning doves while out for a walk. I decided to take some closeup photos since it was a rare opportunity to observe color, feather texture and shape, etc. so closely. I started a gouache and pencil drawing today. I’ve decided to step away from larger paintings for the moment, and instead spend more time drawing, experimenting, and working on my illustration style. … Read entire article »

Blackbirds (Work in Progress)
Blackbird awakens the mind with awareness as changes of perceptions are unfolding. He stirs psychic abilities and brings to consciousness latent healing gifts and creativity. Blackbird shows how to move with determination, focus and tenacity and how to use your power to its fullest potential. At this time there is a magic of the unseen worlds coming forth that is paired with the balance of grounding within the earth as you walk your path. Redwing … Read entire article »

Slowing Down
‘Tis the season. The days grow shorter and colder, and I am in my jammies at 4:30 pm, ready to curl up with hot chocolate or tea, some knitting, and hibernate until… May or something. But I have been pushing myself to get at least a couple of other pieces underway. I went back to the “Iris” piece and decided it was just not working. So I’m gonna stick a bird on it. I went … Read entire article »

I Don’t Speak French
Yet somehow, half of the spam comments that try to make their way onto my humble blog are in French. Instead of ranting about that, however, I’m going to post today’s progress on the Hummingbird Lady. I also need to get my act together and write a statement about these pieces. There’s a lot going on and every time I sit down and try to put pen to paper it comes out very corny, indeed. It’s … Read entire article »

Illustration Friday: FUEL
Once again, this week’s topic for Illustration Friday immediately brought to mind more mechanical things, but then I suddenly had the thought that “fuel” could be interpreted more broadly. I love food, I love eating, and I have a firm belief in fueling the mind and body with good, whole, homemade foods. My six-year-old got the connection immediately when I showed her the drawing.
